Hey!
This Monday, we had an exhilarating and unscripted conversation with the legendary
aboutthe role of mathematics in machine learning and data science,
leaving research behind to pursue a mission to teach,
the problem with textbooks (is that they are written by professors for professors),
how to overcome the steep learning curve of math and get started,
our creative processes,
and how we form mathematical and other creative ideas.
The conversation starts around the 17:00 mark. (We had some technical issues in the beginning.)
Speaking of the creative process: don’t forget to join me tomorrow at 9:00 (CET) for The Palindrome Office Hours live stream! This is going to be a special one, as we’ll live-write the next post of The Palindrome together.
The topic: “Coding on paper”, that is, the infamous practice of doing programming assignments by literally writing down the code by hand with pen and paper. I hated it at the university, but after a decade of teaching, it’s time to reevaluate.
See you tomorrow!
Cheers,
Tivadar
